The Challenge
The University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences needed to harden their networks against cyber attacks: Hackers had penetrated both organizations in February 2021, attacking more than 1,000 Windows servers used by 10,000 employees and 90,000 students.
Both organizations needed to re-zone their entire network environments. This involved reinstalling or installing complete SAP environments just to move from one server to another. Because of the intricate connections between multiple disparate systems, this was a complex operation.
Compounding the operation was that both organizations have multiple components and multiple satellite systems. The ecosystem is complex for a mid-sized SAP organization of their kind, particularly with SAP Fiori Development.
The Solution
In addition to the complex re-zoning issue, The University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences also wanted to be proactive and prevent similar attacks from taking place again. To aid in this, they deployed bowbridge Anti-Virus for SAP Solutions, the only content-security software built solely for SAP. The solution protects their SAP Fiori layer (deployed as a hub), defending networks against malicious files uploaded through Fiori.
The Results
The University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences have not had any issues since deploying bowbridge Anti-Virus for SAP Solutions. Even with users uploading around 25 files per hour through Fiori, neither organization has had any issues. In fact, they find bowbridge so trouble-free and reliable that they barely need to check the logs anymore — and only if there’s the odd employee who can’t upload. They’ve had no negative feedback whatsoever from the organization, even under fairly intensive use, which means the system is doing its job, doing it well, and doing it quietly.
